How to Format Disks in an Exchange System
The present invention relates to a disk control method of an exchange system, and more particularly, to a method of formatting a disk by receiving disk mode information from an external device.
In general, a hard disk (hereinafter referred to as a disk) is widely used as an auxiliary storage device. In order to format and use such a disk, disk mode information that determines how the disk is used is required, and corresponding parameter values must be changed according to the type or model of the disk. Therefore, in order to use various types of disks in the system, the system must know the mode information of the disks.
In general, the system stores the disk mode information in a ROM chip, and the firmware is used to format the disk using the firmware. That is, the conventional disk format method writes and stores the mode information of the disk in the ROM chip and refers to it when formatting the disk. In the disk format method as described above, since the mode information of all the disks used is written to the ROM chip when the system firmware is manufactured, the hard disk can be easily formatted independently of the firmware itself.
However, the conventional disk format method as described above does not have the disk mode information for the new disk model, and thus causes a problem in that the system cannot format the disk. In this case, the mode information of the corresponding disk model is stored. It must be replaced with ROM chip. In addition, the conventional disk format method has a problem that a new ROM chip has to be manufactured even when the same model is to be used in a different mode.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a method for an input / output processor of an exchange apparatus to be connected to an external device and to format a new disk according to the disk mode information input from the outside, and to store the information on the disk to rebuild the disk later. It provides a way to make this information available when formatting.
The disk format method of the present invention for achieving the above object comprises an input / output processor for formatting a disk connected to an external device for generating an information file required for disk formatting, and analyzes the mode information of the disk upon receiving a disk format command. If the mode information of the disc exists, the disc is formatted according to the mode information of the disc.If the mode information of the disc does not exist, the disc is requested to transmit mode information to the external device and the received mode information is stored in the disc. It features a format.

2 is a flowchart illustrating a process of formatting a disk by an input / output processor of an exchange system according to an embodiment of the present invention.
3 is a diagram showing an example of mode information of a disc;
In the embodiment of the present invention, instead of storing the mode information of the hard disk in the ROM chip of the system, the hard disk is used by communicating with an external computer while receiving the disk mode information from the switching system and storing it in the system area of the disk. Controls the mode information of the hard disk. Therefore, when formatting a disk, the mode information of the disk can be read and used from the system area of the hard disk. If the mode information does not exist in the system sector of the disk, the mode information can be read from an external computer connected to the system. Format the disk after receiving it.
1 is a diagram illustrating a configuration of an apparatus for connecting to an external device and receiving disk mode information in a switching system according to an embodiment of the present invention. MAP (Maintenance and Administration Personal computer) 10 is a computer connected to the outside of the exchange system, and generates format mode information of the disk and stores it in the internal hard disk. The input / output processor module (IPM) 20 performs an interfacing function between the system and an external device in order to perform the input / output processing function of the switching system. In particular, in the embodiment of the present invention is connected to the MAP10 performs a function for transmitting and receiving the disk mode information with the MAP10. The disk 30 is a hard disk and is formatted under the control of the IPM20. Wherein the MAP10 and IPM20 have an HDLC / LAPB protocol bus.
2 is a flowchart illustrating an operation of performing a disk format by receiving the disk format mode information by using a communication protocol between the IPM20 and the MAP10 of the switching system and storing it in the system area of the disk 30. Referring to FIG.
3A-3C in FIG. 3 show an example of the mode information of the disc, which is the disc mode information of the ST3390N. The ST3390N is a hard disk manufactured and sold by Sierra, and the disk mode information is shown in Table 1 below.
mode pagepage code Error Recovery page01 HDisconnect / Reconnect page02 HFormat device page03 HRigid Disc Geometry page04 HCaching page (SCI-3)08 HControl Mode page0A HNotch and Partition page0C HCache Control page38 HSoft ID page3C HOperating page00 H
In Table 1, each mode page is divided into detailed items. As illustrated in FIG. 3, the error recovery page 1H is configured as shown in 3a of FIG. 3 and includes 11 bytes in total. In addition, the connect / reconnect page 2H is configured as shown in 3b of FIG. 3 and has a total of 15 bytes. The format device page 3H is configured as shown in 3c of FIG. 3 and has a total of 15 bytes. Each page of Table 3 has disk mode information corresponding to those illustrated in FIG. 3.
As shown in FIG. 3, all of the discs may have different disc mode information according to the disc manufacturer and the disc type. In this case, when the new disk is installed in the exchange system and the disk is formatted, the system operator inputs mode information of the disk in the external MAP10 and transmits it to the IPM20.
Referring to the operation of formatting a disk according to an embodiment of the present invention, first, an information file for formatting the disk 30 is created in the MAP 10 and copied into the system maintenance program directory. The disc format mode information data exists in the form of a file on the MAP10, and exists as independent files according to the type and model of the disc 30. In this case, the disk mode information file may be generated by the MAP10 or may be generated by another external personal computer.
In this case, if the MAP10 instructs the format of the disk, the IPM20 detects the reception of the disk format command in step 211, and reads mode information of the disk 30 in the system area in step 213. When the mode of the disc exists in step 215, the IPM 20 formats the disc 30 in step 223 using the mode information read in step 213. That is, if mode information exists in the disc 30, the mode information of the disc 30 is read, and then the format is terminated by the mode information.
However, if the mode information of the disk 30 does not exist in step 215, the IPM217 requests the MAP10 to transmit the disk mode information. Then, when the MAP10 transmits the disk mode information corresponding to the type and model of the disk 30 currently installed in the exchange system 40, the IPM20 performs the steps 219 and 221 to receive the mode information of the disk transmitted from the MAP10. . In step 223, the IPM 20 formats the disk 30. In step 227, the IPM 20 stores the mode information of the disk transmitted from the MAP 10 in the system area of the disk 30 connected to the system, and then ends the format.
As described above, in the embodiment of the present invention, the disk mode information is managed by an externally located MAP10, so that even when the hard disk located in the system is changed to a new type or model, the information file is simply changed in the MAP10 without replacing the firmware of the system. To be created and sent to the system. This can provide convenience in managing the disk even if a new disk is installed in the exchange system. In addition, by storing the above mode information of the disk in the system area of the disk, if the disk is formatted more than once, the disk can be directly accessed from the system sector without transferring the mode information of the disk. Even if the mode information of the disk is not stored in the MAP connected to the system, the IPM can format the disk.
